Seamlessly Continue Your Work Across AI Tools

Move your sessions between Claude, Gemini, and other AI tools with our new Session Context Export feature—no more losing progress when you switch environments.

Overview

We’re introducing a powerful new way to work with your LLM sessions. RCLM now supports Session Context Export, allowing you to capture a session in one tool (like a browser-based Claude interaction) and seamlessly continue it in another (like the Gemini CLI or Claude Code). This feature eliminates the “context gap” when switching between different AI environments, ensuring your progress is never lost.

How it Works

The Session Context Export feature works by generating a high-quality, tool-neutral markdown document that summarizes your session’s state, decisions, and pending work:
  1. Smart Summarization: RCLM uses your session’s existing AI-generated annotations—including what happened, key highlights, and suggested improvements—to build a comprehensive context document instantly.
  2. Hybrid Fast Path: For most sessions, the export is near-instant because it leverages existing data. If you need a more specific “continuation-focused” summary, you can force a fresh LLM analysis to frame the next steps for your target tool.
  3. Cross-Tool Compatibility: The exported context is formatted as a clean markdown document (like a CLAUDE.md or .gemini/AGENTS.md file) that any AI tool can read and understand. It includes a summary of the task, key code changes, and what needs to be done next.
  4. CLI and Web Access: You can trigger an export directly from the ReclaimLLM web interface or use our new CLI command: rclm convert-session <session_id>. This makes it easy to pull your session context directly into your local development environment.

Why We Made This Change

Modern AI development often involves multiple tools. You might start a task with a high-level architectural discussion in a browser and then want to switch to a specialized CLI tool for implementation. Previously, there was no easy way to “tell” the second tool what you had already discussed and decided in the first. By providing a structured context export, we enable true multi-tool workflows without the manual effort of copy-pasting your history.

Current Limitations and Feedback

We’ve focused on making this feature as flexible and reliable as possible, but there are some important considerations:
  • Not a “Native” Resume: This feature doesn’t natively “resume” a session in the sense of loading internal tool state. Instead, it gives the new tool the perfect starting point to understand your progress.
  • Context Window Limits: For extremely long sessions with many large file changes, the exported document may be quite large. We’ve included defaults to keep the export concise, but you should always verify it fits within your target tool’s context window.
  • Tool-Specific Formatting: While we provide a generic markdown output, we are working on more specialized templates for different AI agents to further improve how they consume the exported context.
We believe this is a major step toward a truly interoperable AI development workflow. Try exporting your next session and let us know how it improves your cross-tool experience! ShareShare on X Share on LinkedIn Share on Facebook
